Fall MBA Recruiting: Open Roles

Payne Enterprises Part-time School Year Private Equity Diligence Internship

Payne Enterprises, a boutique strategy firm focused on the Private Equity industry, is looking for part-time associates for this academic year.  Payne Enterprises has been recruiting interns from top MBA programs (including Booth, Kellogg, Stanford GSB, and MIT Sloan) since 2019.

Company Overview:

Payne Enterprises is a disruptive and innovative boutique firm focused on private equity diligence and market research. Payne Enterprises works with many of the world’s top private equity funds on full-scale commercial due diligence projects. Payne Enterprises principals, associates, and interns work together in a remote environment to analyze the market attractiveness, performance, and competitive landscape of potential acquisitions for its private equity clients. Payne Enterprises uses a remote working model, cutting edge analytical tools and an innovative go-to-market strategy to deliver strategic reports on potential acquisition targets.

Gavin Payne, founder and CEO of Payne Enterprises, brings a decade of private equity consulting and market research experience to the firm. He worked for five years with Bain & Company in Chicago, Bangkok, Singapore, and Washington, D.C. before officially launching Payne Enterprises in 2018.  Gavin earned an MBA, with distinction, from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & Chinese from the University of Notre Dame.

Role Description:

Payne Enterprises is recruiting for Associate Intern positions from first-year and second-year MBA students. Experience with consulting (either prior consulting experience or summer internships at McKinsey, BCG or Bain) is preferred but not required.

Requirements include:

  • An interest in consulting and a desire to learn

  • A flexible working style

  • An ability to take the initiative and be a self-starter

  • A positive attitude!

  • US work authorization

Associate Interns will serve as independent contractors who conduct market research and work on PE diligences. You will be responsible for supporting:

  • Customer insights (~40% of time): conduct customer calls and interviews, complete voice of the customer analysis, create customer profiles, and design and manage analytical surveys

  • Competitive analysis (~40% of time): interview industry experts, synthesize key insights, conduct secondary research, and create competitive profiles

  • Market modeling & analysis (~20% of time): estimate market size and growth, forecast addressable markets, and conduct structural analyses detailing industry value chain, go-to-market channels, penetration curve analysis and potential shifts

Value Proposition:

This internship offers an opportunity to quickly “get up the learning curve” on both management consulting and the private equity due diligence space. This internship allows individuals to join traditional firms with the experience and skillset of a second-year instead of a new hire.

You will learn tactical skills (analytical modeling, survey design and analysis, secondary research presentation creation, how to conduct expert interviews, etc.) as well as strategic frameworks and processes from the management team during this internship. It also is a unique opportunity to gain insights into the world of private equity and due diligence services. Eventually, with strong performance, you will present directly to CEOs and private equity leaders.

Commitment:

Payne Enterprises is looking for a 6-12+ month commitment for part-time work. For a 2nd year MBA student, this means returning to full-time work post-graduation no earlier than September 2024.

For a 1st year MBA student, this means returning to Payne Enterprises during their 2nd year of school for part-time work. Payne Enterprises understands and expects that first-year students will likely do a full-time summer internship elsewhere. Interns have returned to Payne Enterprises for full-time employment, which is an option for the highest performers.

Work-load is project-based and flexible, but can range from 0-30 hours / week, with an average of 15-20 hours / week.

Next Steps:

Please email your resume and cover letter to recruiting@payneenterprises.com.  Please also include 1-2 paragraphs detailing your relevant experience, longer-term career goals, and why you would like to do this internship.

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you!
